Summary

The thermal performance of a heat pipe solar collector using a glass concentric evacuated tube was investigated experimentally under the weather field conditions of Jinju, Korea. Two sets of solar collector installed with heat pipes of different wick structures were investigated in the same operating conditions. An experimental study has been carried out to find out thermal characteristics of the solar collectors. The paper is to analyze thermal performance data and to compare them with those of simulation modelling for SDHWS using TRANSYS. Subsequently, thermal performance of system can be evaluated using TRNSYS model based on the weather data for Jinju, Korea. The annual average of solar fraction obtained from experimental results was about 73%. It is found from the results that the heating system with solar collector can exceed all the hot water needs for house of four people residence.
