Evaporative cooling fundamentals: the advantages and achievements of "Idalex" coolers.

Summary

Evaporative cooling fundamentals are reviewed in the first section. This direct evaporation process produces a large air temperature reduction in regions with dry climates. The limitations and main drawbacks of direct evaporative coolers are discussed. Considerable improvements can be obtained with indirect evaporative cooling. The thermodynamic fundamentals of direct, indirect and combined methods of air cooling are discussed, including the main advantages and disadvantages. This indirect evaporative cooling concept has become the thermodynamic basis for a new indirect evaporative cooling cycle and technology developed by Idalex.
