EVAPORATOR DESIGN FOR HEAT PUMPS WITH AIR AS THE HEAT SOURCE.

Summary

TWO PIPE CONFIGURATIONS OF A FLOODED EVAPORATOR WERE TESTED IN A CALORIMETER TO PROVIDE DESIGN DATA FOR A HEAT PUMP. EXISTING COMPUTER SIMULATIONS WERE USED AND A NUMBER OF DESIGN PARAMETERS WERE EVALUATED AND COMPARED WITH TEST RESULTS. THE AGREEMENT WAS BETTER THAN MORE OR LESS 10% OVER A RANGE OF EVAPORATION TEMPERATURES. EVAPORATOR AREAS WERE OPTIMISED FOR VARIOUS FRONTAL AIR VELOCITIES, BUT TO DATE ONLY SENSIBLE HEAT TRANSFER HAS BEEN CONSIDERED. G.R.S.
