Market integration and price convergence in the global LNG market: a focus on Asia and Europe.

Number: 67

Author(s) : FAZELIYANOVA G.

Summary

This study analyses the structural transformation of the global LNG market, focusing on the increasing integration between Asian and European gas markets and the declining role of oil prices in LNG price formation. Using a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) applied to daily benchmark prices, the results show strong long-run cointegration and rapid bidirectional price adjustment between Asian LNG and European gas prices, reflecting the growing role of LNG trade and spot market dynamics. By contrast, oil prices exert only a limited influence on Asian LNG pricing, confirming a shift toward gas-on-gas competition and deeper global market integration.
