Summary
The existing heating system of an apartment complex in Norway, based on oil burners and electric resistance heating, was replaced by electric heat pumps. Using exhaust air as heat source, the heat pumps supply heat and hot water to the 984 apartments with an annual electric demand of just 5.6 million kilowatthours. This reduced the annual energy bill by NOK 1.3 million (USD 230,000) in the first year of operation. The investment costs are expected to be paid back within six years.
