Exhaust air heat pumps experiences.

Author(s) : FEHRM M.

Summary

From the very start of 1980 up to today, exhaust air heat pumps have gained a market share from zero to more than 50% in new-built one family dwellings in Sweden. In the same time other types of heat pumps had the best years in the beginning of the eighties to lose almost all of the market in the middle of the eighties. These types of heat pumps are now slowly coming back on the market. Results from installations in single-family houses and experiences from larger exhaust air heat pump systems are also given. The largest unit has a heat output of 3.4 megawatts and is servicing 2,500 flats. New developments for the European market are described. Natural gas is used as supplementary heat and the energy in the flue-gases will be recovered by the heat pump. Newly developed combined heat source systems for smaller multi-family houses tend to be available in standardized sizes.
