Summary
The old Soviet Union obtained 57% of its domestic heating from district heating schemes, and 40% of the total by co-generation plants. Main distribution piping totalled 24,000 km. Over recent years, automatic control has been developed to optimise the rate and temperature of hot water flow. Energy savings of up to 35% may be possible. A.R.T.
