Summary

One of main operating parameters of desiccant wheels is the regeneration temperature. This paper presents experimental tests on performance of silica gel desiccant wheel at different temperatures. The experimental setup includes two man-made environmental chambers and a test chamber. The man-made chambers are for controlling outdoor air and indoor air conditions, and the desiccant wheels unit with a heat wheel is in the test chamber. The experimental tests carried out with outdoor air conditions of temperate and tropical climate at regeneration temperatures of 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 80°C. The investigation result shows that a regeneration temperature of 50°C can be used in desiccant wheels in temperate climate areas. When the regeneration temperature is over 65°C, the process air humidity is dependent on the regeneration air humidity. The latent heat to energy consumption ratio with heat wheel is 0.6-0.7 W/W, and it is twice that of without heat recovery.
