Summary

In this study, the experiments were conducted on a two-stage compression air source heat pump under low temperature conditions to explore the influence of parameters on frosting and analyze the variation of the performance under frosting. The results show that when the ambient air temperature was below 0°C, both frost volume and frosting rate increased with the temperature, and frosting was most serious at 0°C while frosting was less serious at 3°C. When the temperature was below -7°C, the frosting was not obvious. When evaporator wall temperature was close to air dew point and air humidity was high, frosting was dramatic. The influence of relative humidity on frosting was more significant than that of ambient air temperature. In addition, the heating capacity and COP of the heat pump decreased under frosting conditions.
