Summary
Several solutions are being studied on refrigeration CO2 systems with the aim of improving their energy performance. Subcooling systems are one of the solutions that are taking more importance in the last years. Other systems, like parallel compression, can also provide similar energy improvements in transcritical CO2 systems, and they are considered as the state-of-the-art nowadays. In this work, a transcritical commercial refrigeration plant is studied experimentally working with two mechanical subcooling system: the integrated and the dedicated and also working with parallel compressor. The plant has been tested at three different heat rejection levels, between 25.0ºC and 35ºC under optimum conditions of subcooling degree and gas-cooler pressure in order to achieve the best plant’s COP. The performance of the three alternatives is studied and then compared, determining with is the best solution for the evaluated conditions.
