Experimental and analytical study of inter-tube flow and absorption in horizontal tubular absorbers.

Summary

The performance of the horizontal tubular absorbers of absorption cooling systems depends on the flow behaviour of both the falling-film regime and the inter-tube flow regime. The main objective of the study is to incorporate the inter-tube vapour absorption process in the modelling of horizontal tubular absorbers. Experimental data on different inter-tube flow modes, including droplet/jet/sheet, are obtained for a range of design and operating conditions. The inter-tube flow patterns are captured on video film and the images are analyzed with the help of image analysis software. The hydrodynamic data thus obtained are incorporated in a coupled heat and mass transfer model that predicts the vapour absorption rate for the inter-tube flow regime.
