Experimental COP enhancement of a CO2 transcritical refrigerating plant including thermoelectric subcooling.

Summary

The latter fluorinated greenhouse gases regulations are reinforcing the use of CO2 as working fluid in commercial refrigerating plants due to its ultra-low global warming potential and its natural condition. Nevertheless, the transcritical operation at high ambient temperatures provokes a decrement on their coefficient of performance promoting further investigation on this topic to optimize their behavior. This research combines thermoelectric cooling with a CO2 vapor compression facility, providing a subcooling at the exit of the gascooler that increases the COP up to the 9.9 % .
