Experimental research on flow maldistribution in plate fin heat exchangers.

Author(s) : ZHANG Z., TIAN J.

Summary

The flow maldistribution and the effect of different inlet configurations on the flow distribution were studied experimentally in plate-fin heat exchangers. It was found that the flow maldistribution was significant because of the defects of the inlet configurations, and the inlet configuration and Reynolds number are the main factors affecting the flow distribution. A new header with a two-stage distributing configuration was proposed and tested in this paper. The experimental results show that the performance of flow distribution in heat exchangers can be effectively improved by using the new header. The correlations of the flow maldistribution characteristics with Reynolds number have been obtained under different header configurations for the first time.
