Summary

To maintain longevity and efficiency of refrigeration compressors and as new fluids and oils appear on the market, the study of thermodynamic properties of mixtures composed of lubricating oils and refrigerant is essential. In this article, experimental and model tools are presented to characterize the mass fraction, miscibility and viscosity of oil-refrigerant mixtures. Cylindrical cells of 65 cm3 /122 cm3 /475 cm3, equipped with pressure sensors (0 to 60 bars a), thermo-couples (calibrated from -40 °C to +120 °C), viewing windows and a vibrating rod viscometer (from 0 to 100 cPo) are used. Empirical models and models based on the equality of liquid and vapor fugacity at equilibrium based on the Heil activity coefficient are developed. A focus is done on the sensitivity of the oil molar mass in these models on four couples of oil and refrigerant.
