Experimental study of falling films over tube bundle distiller in ammonia-water liquid mixtures.

Summary

This work presents an experimental study of the distiller of an ammonia-water absorption refrigeration cycle. It is analyzed a falling film distiller composed by two elements: the generator and the rectifier. Both of them consist of horizontal tube bundles. The aim of this work is to analyze the vapor ammonia distilled concentration and mass flow rate as a function of several operational parameters. Results showed that the distilled ammonia vapor concentration always degraded as temperatures of the rectifier, generator, and concentrated solution increased and improved as the concentrated solution mass flow rate and the concentration of concentrated solution increased. The highest distilled ammonia vapor concentration obtained was of 0.9974. It was also analyzed the liquid distribution system on the horizontal generator tube bundle and the flow pattern between tubes.
