Summary

THE ARTICLE PRESENTS THE PERFORMANCE OF A HEAT PUMP COUPLED TO A NETWORK OF HORIZONTAL PIPES BURIED IN SAND. THE HEAT PUMP HAS A THERMAL CAPACITY OF ABOUT 7 KILOW. ITS COP REMAINS PRACTICALLY CONSTANT. THE LINEAR POWER DENSITY EXTRACTED FROM THE GROUND IS HIGHER IF THE TUBES ARE WELL SPACED AND THIS ALSO REDUCES THE THERMAL INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE TUBES. THE VARIATION IN THE THERMAL CAPACITY OVER A PERIOD OF TIME FOLLOWS SEASONAL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS, WHEREAS THE THERMAL CONDUCTANCE MAINTAINS A CONSTANT VALUE OVER THE ENTIRE PERIOD WHEN THE GROUNDIS FROZEN.
