Summary

THE INFLUENCE OF SNOW COVER ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HEAT PUMP COUPLED WITH THE HORIZONTAL GROUND HEAT EXCHANGER (HGHE) IS INVESTIGATED IN THIS PAPER. IN GENERAL, SNOW COVER IMPROVES THE COP OF GROUND HEAT PUMPS. FOR A STABLE AND THICK SNOW COVER IT IS BENEFICIAL TO BURY A COIL VERY NEAR THE SOIL SURFACE. FOR UNSTABLE SNOW CONDITIONS, DEEPER BURIED COILS ARE E FREEZING OF SOIL MOISTURE AROUND THE COIL HAS A POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE COP. IT APPEARS THAT THE HGHE DOES NOT CREATE ANY RISK OF ECOLOGICAL DAMAGE TO GARDEN PLANTS.
