Summary

The high energy consumption and the current directives requiring that new buildings are near zero energy consumption "nZEB", drive new solutions to reduce the energy demand. One of the existing alternatives consists of accumulating energy in the building structure, as Thermally Activated Buildings Systems (TABS), shifting heat and cold generation from demand. The number of parameters involved in the design of the TABS, such as the active layer position, the slab thickness, etc., make it advisable to have experimental results that allow optimizing the design parameters according to the required operational conditions. This works presents experimental results of the accumulation processes in activated slabs, analyzing the effect of different heat charge and discharge periods, water temperatures used in the activation and slab material. The tests were developed in a climatic chamber that allows controlled environmental conditions.
