Summary
Void formation is a serious problem for silver-sheathed bismuth 2212 superconductor wires produced by a partial melt process. The authors established a gas pressure melting method which utilizes a combination of about 1 atm oxygen partial pressure and higher or equal to 6 atm of total gas pressure. The method has proved very effective for obtaining a homogeneous dispersion of small voids and good superconductivity.
