FEASIBILITY STUDY OF SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET SYSTEM WITH LONG-LIFE CONTINUOUS OPERATION.

Author(s) : FARBER I. M.

Summary

THIS PAPER INVESTIGATES THE FEASIBILITY OF A SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET SYSTEM (SMS) THAT WORKS FOR 2,400 HOURS OF CONTINUOUS UNATTENDED OPERATION USING CRYOGENIC EQUIPMENT LIMITED IN MASS AND DIMENSIONS. THE CONTINUOUS UNATTENDED OPERATION OF SMS IS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE USE OF A SPECIAL CRYOSTAT DESIGN FOR CRYOSTABILIZING THE SUPERCONDUCTING SOLENOID AND ADJUSTING WINDING. THE CRYOSTAT MEETS A NUMBER OF SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS DUE TO THE ORIGINAL MOUNTING OF THE HELIUM VESSEL AND THE SYSTEM OF EVACUATING HELIUM VAPORS FROM THE CRYOSTAT UTILIZING A THROTTLING UNIT WITH THE MAXIMUM USE OF COLD PRODUCED BY VENTED VAPORS. THE PAPER PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF TESTING A MODEL OF THE CRYOSTAT USED IN THE SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET SYSTEM.
