FIELD MEASUREMENT OF CHILLED WATER STORAGE THERMAL PERFORMANCE.

Summary

THIS PROJECT INVESTIGATED THE PERFORMANCE, IN A SYSTEMS CONTEXT, OF SEVERAL TYPES OF CHILLED WATER STORAGE SYSTEMS IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS. THE STUDY INCLUDED 8 STORAGE SYSTEMS OF 4 DIFFERENT DESIGNS LOCATED IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. WATER VOLUMETRIC FLOW RATES AND TANK INLET AND OUTLET TEMPERATURES WERE MEASURED DURING TANK CHARGING AND DISCHARGING CYCLES TO CALCULATE THE CHARGE AND DISCHARGE COOLING CAPACITY. STORAGE EFFECTIVENESS WAS EVALUATED FOR EACH CHARGING AND DISCHARGING CYCLE FOR SEVERAL CYCLESPER SITE. COMPARISONS ARE DRAWN AMONG THE VARIOUS SYSTEMS TESTED BASED ON THERMAL PERFORMANCE AND OBSERVATIONS ON COLD STORAGE SYSTEM OPERATION IN THE FIELD ARE MADE.
