Summary

CLOSED TWO-PHASE THERMOSIPHONS OF GIVEN DIMENSIONS MUST BE FIL LED WITH AN APPROPRIATE QUANTITY OF WORKING FLUID IN ORDER TO EXCHANGE A GIVEN FLOW OF HEAT. IN ACTUAL PRACTICE THE HEAT FLOW IS MOST OFTEN NOT FIXED BUT ENCOMPASSES INSTEAD A TEMPERATURE RANGE WITHIN WHICH THE THERMOSIPHON IS TO EXCHANGE HEAT AT VARYING LEVELS. IN THIS CASE IT IS NECESSARY THAT AN OPERATIONAL FILL LEVEL BE DETERMINED. THE REPORT DEVELOPS A METHOD FOR MAKING THIS DETERMINATION AND DEMONSTRATES IT BY APPLYING IT TO A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE.
