Summary

RECENT EXPERIMENTS HAVE ENCOMPASSED REGIONS WHERE THE ARCHIMEDES NUMBER IS LOW AND ALSO WHERE THE PHASE CHANGE NUMBER IS HIGH. THE APPARATUS USED CONSISTED OF COPPER DISCS 20 MM THICK, INSULATED EXCEPT FOR THE UPPER SURFACE UPON WHICH HELIUM AND ARGON HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BOIL. TEMPERATURES WERE MEASURED WITH THERMOCOUPLES BURIED IN HOLES DRILLED RADIALLY IN THE DISCS.
