Summary

A METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE RECOVERY HEAT FLUX IN SATURATED HE II HEAT TRANSFER IS PRESENTED. THE APPROACH COMBINES THE MOLECULAR KINETIC EQUATIONS FOR FILM BOILING WITH THE MUTUAL FRICTION-DESCRIPTION OF HEAT FLOW IN BULK HE II. RECOVERY TO THE NON-FILM BOILING STATE IS SEEN TO OCCUR WHEN THE VAPOUR FILM COLLAPSES INTO THE BULK LIQUID HE II. RESULTS OF THE PRESENT CALCULATIONS ARE COMPARED WITH TWO EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS ON CYLINDRICAL HEAT TRANSFER SPECIMENS AND ONE ON A FLAT PLATE AT THE END OF A DUCT.
