Summary
States there are 200 kilometers of 12 inch and 16 inch chilled water pipework in the Channel Tunnel used for cooling purposes. The pipework runs throughout the length of the tunnels and is connected to cooling towers on the United Kingdom and French sides of the Channel. The operation involves 23,000 m3 of treated and softened water, flowing through pipework with a surface area of 25,000 m2, at flow rates up to 1 m3/second. Reports on how the system was flushed out after startup and operational targets for contamination control were met.
