THERE WAS A 15% INCREASE IN FROZEN FOOD SALES IN 1984, THE BEST SELLING PRODUCTS BEING FROZEN VEGETABLES, POULTRY, POTATO PRODUCTS, FISH AND FROZEN READY MEALS. 50% OF THE FROZEN FOOD INDUSTRY OUTPUT IS FOR CATERING, WITH VEGETABLES AND FISH BASED READY MEALS AMONGST THE LEADERS. FEW FROZEN FOODS ARE IMPORTED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF FISH AND UNPROCESSED VEGETABLES AND BERRIES. EXPORTS ARE CONFINED TO FROZEN PEAS AND HERRING ROES. AVERAGE CONSUMPTION OF FROZEN FOOD WAS 10.5 KG PER CAPITA IN 1984, AND IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE BY 5% PER YEAR AS DISPOSABLE INCOMES ARE RISING AND FAMILY SIZES DECREASING. THERE ARE STRINGENT LABELLING REQUIREMENTS FOR BOTH DOMESTIC AND IMPORTED FROZEN FOODS. G.R.S.
