Summary

Flow boiling of a potential refrigerant R32/R1234ze(E) in a horizontal microfin tube of 5.21 mm inner diameter (ID) with 48 helical inner fins of 0.256 mm height is experimentally investigated in this study.Th average heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and pressure drop in the test section of 454 mm heating length are measured at the saturation temperature 10 °C, with heat fluxes of 10 and 15 kW m-2, and with mass velocities from 150 to 400 kg m-2s-1. The HTC of R1234ze(E) is lower than of r32, as predicted by several correlations. Degradation in the HTC of the R32/R1234ze€ mixture is significant; the HTC is even lower than that of R1234ze(E). The HTC is minimized at the composition 0.2/0.8 by mass, where the temperature glide and the mass fraction difference between vapor and liquid are maximized. A predicting correlation based on Momoki et al. (1995) associated with the correlation methods of Thome et al. (1997) and Stephan (1992) is proposed. Excellent agreement with the proposed correlation and experimental results are demonstrated.
