Flow characteristics and pressure drop of ice slurries in straight tubes.

Summary

The paper reports on results of experimental investigations into the pressure drop of 5% propylene glycol/water slurries at ice concentrations between 0 and 37% and at different flow rates in two different size unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVD-U) pipes, with internal diameters of 12.70 mm and 19.05 mm. The frictional pressure drop was found to increase with increasing ice concentration for both pipes. Further work is required to investigate the impact of pipe diameter on the pressure drop.
