Summary

Previous experience has shown the advantage of displacers for providing accurate control on the amount and timing of fluid flow through an AMR. One of the disadvantages of a simple displacer is that the mechanical coupling to the drive motor makes changing flow conditions during an experiment impossible. Here we describe a bypass system created to operate in parallel with a displacer to dynamically control the volume and timing of fluid flow. The system utilizes solenoid valves such that timing of valve opening is used to force fluid to bypass the AMR during portions of a cycle. The design and initial tests with a passive regenerator test apparatus are described.
