Summary

Visualization of phenomena is a key tool even though digital simulation is being used increasingly. The methods employed at present are being developed in order to perform quantitative measurements: flow-velocity measurement (double-pulse laser), temperature-variation or refractive-index measurements, or even phase change (liquid-gas). Visualization is becoming more accurate and more user-friendly. Thanks to laser tomography, interferometry, holography or other methods, the industry now has analytical tools at its disposal for use in widely varied fields (air-conditioning systems, cooling in thermic and electrical processes and wind-tunnel tests in civil engineering). The article provides an overview of various methods.
