Summary

The situation of CFC substitutes is summarised: it is necessary to switch to HCFC and HFC, the first being valid only if R22 is not the only one. The other fluids are reviewed and conditions of conversion of existing installations are outlined. Experiments on conversions are related by refrigeration experts. The example of Migros company is revealed: current measures aiming at the reduction of CFC needs are described, experiments and practical tests for R12 and R502 alternative refrigerants are related, the rules to comply with for the use of substitute refrigerants are indicated, a community strategy set up for the waterproofness of the installations securing the refrigerant survival, is revealed.
