GASTROFIBROSCOPIC CRYOSURGERY: AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY.

Summary

WITH THE INTRAGASTRIC CRYOSURGICAL INSTRUMENT DESIGNED BY THE AUTHORS, GASTROFIBEROSCOPIC CRYOSURGICAL EXPERIMENTS IN CANINE STOMACHS WERE RECENTLY UNDERTAKEN AS A PRECLINICAL STUDY. WHEN LIQUID NITROGEN WAS USED AS FREEZING AGENT, THE TEMPERATURE OF THE TIP OF THE CRYOPROBE MIGHT REACH 77 K (-196 DEG C). INITIALLY, IN THE NORMAL STOMACH OF A DOG THE CRYOSURGICAL EFFECTS UPON LOCAL TISSUES WERE OBSERVED. AN EXPERIMENTAL CRYOSURGICAL TREATMENT OF THE GASTRIC ULCER OF THE CANINE MODEL WAS THEN CONDUCTED. IN ADDITION, THE RELATION BETWEEN THE DURATION OF FREEZING AND THE CORRESPONDING TISSUE TEMPERATURE OF HUMAN STOMACHS WAS ALSO STUDIED.
