GAX absorption cycles: recent developments have sparked renewed interest.

Author(s) : ERICKSON D. C., RANE M. V.

Type of article: Article

Summary

By transferring heat from absorber to generator, a "GAX" (Generator-Absorber heat exchange) cycle heat pump is more efficient than a conventional absorption heat pump so long as the temperature lift is low. The recent emergence of advanced GAX cycles has intensified interest in this technology. The article describes the essential characteristics of the GAX family of absorption cycles and highlights some examples of both heating and cooling applications with very good COPs.
