GUIDELINES FOR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF TANKS FOR LOW TEMPERATURE LIQUEFIED GASES.

RECOMMENDATIONS POUR LA CONCEPTION ET LA CONSTRUCTION DES RESERVOIRS DE GAZ LIQUEFIES A BASSE TEMPERATURE.

Author(s) : JOLLIVET P.

Summary

CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY GOVERNS THE GENERAL DESIGN OF TANKS FOR LOW TEMPERATURE LIQUEFIED GASES. ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF ENVIRONMENT, VARIOUS CONSTRUCTION ARRANGEMENTS MAY BE BROUGHT INTO PLAY. EXTERNAL SHELLS IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE, EITHER WITH A SELF-SUPPORTING INNER TANK OR A MEMBRANE TANK, OFFER GREAT SAFETY AGAINST INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL HAZARDS. REGULATIONS CONCERNING TANKS FORLIQUEFIED GASES, MAINLY ADAPTED TO CLASSICAL METALLIC TANKS, SHOULD ADVANCE IN A LESS RESTRICTING WAY FOR OTHER TANKS THAT OFFER A HIGH LEVEL OF SAFETY.
