Summary

DESCRIPTION OF THE CONCEPT AND OBJECTIVES OF A MISSION, NEWLY ESTABLISHED BY THE CSTB, FRANCE, AND ENTITLED < HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT >. IT AIMS AT PROMOTING AND PUTTING TOGETHER ALL THE ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE DESIGN OF BUILDINGS (NOTABLY HOUSING) WITH RESPECT TO THE PROBLEMS OF HEALTH, WELL-BEING AND COMFORT. THE AUTHORS, UNDERLINING THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS MISSION, INSIST ON SOME URGENT OBJECTIVES (INFORMATION GATHERING, MAKING RESPONSIBLE PERSONS AND PROFESSIONALS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, RESEARCH AND CONTRACTS TO HELP MNAE THEY EXAMINE SOME HARMFUL EFFECTS DUE TO BUILDINGS (VOLATILE POLLUTANTS, ASBESTOS AND FIBRES, RADON, OXIDES AND MICROORGANISMS). TO CONCLUDE, THEYASSERT THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO DEFINE PROPERLY WHAT ARE THE < HEALTHY > MATERIALS AND THE HARMFUL PRACTICES, WITHOUT FORGETTING THE IMPORTANT RELATION BETWEEN HEALTH AND WATER SUPPLY.
