Heat and mass transfer enhancement by additives in NH3-H2O.

Author(s) : HOFFMANN L., ZIEGLER F.

Summary

It is well-known that different additives provoke a significant increase of heat and mass transfer in falling-film absorbers in liquid sorption systems using water-lithium bromide. However, from a fundamental point of view the mechanism is not yet satisfactorily explained. To learn about the fundamentals as well as from an engineering point of view, information about the effect of additives in other working pairs is required. In the paper, results of experiments with falling-film absorbers and desorbers with ammonia-water is presented. Some diminution has been detected in absorption. In contrast to this, significant improvement is reported in falling-film desorption.
