Heat pipe cooled and heated solid sorption refrigerator.

Summary

Solid sorption Nax zeolite-ammonia, carbon fiber-ammonia and complex compound carbon fiber-calcium chloride/ammonia refrigerators heated and cooled by heat pipe heat exchangers were developed and tested with mean cold output of up to 120 watts. Such heat machines have a cold output of 300 watts/kg of sorbent bed and could be used for air cooling down to -20 deg C, chilled water feeding (cooling 10-liter canisters from 12 to 1 deg C for three hours), or ice production. COP for one canister cooler is 0.4, for two canister coolers with heat recovery COP is increased up to 0.6.
