Heat pumps: a guide for housing.

Les pompes à chaleur : guide habitat.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The technical guide has been developed in order to analyze a heat pump project for a single-family house. The principle and the performance of a heat pump are explained. Its various COPs are defined. The various heat sources ou "cold" sources are listed. The heat produced is distributed by means of air or water circulation. the systems used are described in detail. Very clear schematics illustrate these descriptions. The heat pump output is often insufficient in the winter and necessitates an extra heater. The choice of one of the systems described must be made, for new residences, in favour of the one that is best suited for the application. For existing housing, the system must be adapted to the existing heating system. Advice is given for the practical application (regulation, maintenance). The economic importance of the heat pump is assessed by the "pay-back time": some exploitation results are presented. Finally, out of the heating season, an independant heat pump can suffice for the production of the domestic hot water. J.L.
