Summary

THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS ENERGY PRICE SCENARIOS ON THE FINANCIAL RELATIONSHIPS CONCERNING ELECTRICAL AND GAS-FIRED HEAT PUMPS FOR THE HEATING OF RESIDENTIAL PREMISES HAS BEEN STUDIED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE APPLICATION OF ELECTRICAL HEAT PUMPS WILL ONLY BE VIABLE WHEN THE NATURAL GAS PRICE IS RAISED TO THE LEVEL OF THAT OF DOMESTIC FUEL OIL. FOR THE GAS-ENGINE-DRIVEN HEAT PUMP PROSPECTS ARE MORE FAVOURABLE. REGARDING THE PURCHASE PRICE OF SMALL GAS-FIRED ABSORPTION HEAT PUMPS, TOO LITTLE IS KNOWN AT PRESENT FOR MAKING A SOUND EVALUATION. THE HIGH-EFFICIENCY GAS BOILER PROVES AN IMPORTANT COMPETITOR FOR ALL HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS.
