Summary

There is a clear tendency towards air conditioning of buildings in Germany, especially within the industrial sector. This is due to increasing use of glass architecture, the increasingly tight sealing of buildings and the relative growth of cooling demands within buildings (computers etc.), as well as to the demand for thermal comfort all year round. Only recently, a gas-fuelled air-conditioning system (based on natural gas) became available in Germany; it has already been used successfully in Asia for almost two decades. In the first field test, the system has proved to be highly reliable and of high energy efficiency.
