Summary

Heat pumps can play an important role in the reduction of the use of fossil fuels. Application in houses however, is hampered by the high costs of residential heat pumps. The cost price of a 5 kilowatt residential heat pump appeared to be less than NLG 3,000. Larger production numbers, a keen buying strategy and a more simple design will lead to a substantial decrease in cost price. Moreover, a capacity increase of 50% leads to a cost price which is only 15% higher. Altogether it is clear that heat pumps are not that expensive.
