THIS SHORT ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE PLANT INSTALLED AT THE MILK MARKETING BOARD'S DAIRY AT BAMBER BRIDGE, LANCAS. THIS IS THE SECOND DAIRY TO USE HEAT PUMPS IN THE U.K. BOTH INSTALLATIONS EMPLOY HEAT PUMPS USING CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS, TOGETHER WITH SHELL AND TUBE CONDENSERS AND EVAPORATORS CAPABLE OF GENERATING USEFUL HEAT UP TO 383 K (110 DEG C). THE UNITS ARE DESCRIBED AND A DIAGRAM IS INCLUDED TO SHOW THE LAYOUT OF THE WATER AND HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM. THESE DAIRY HEAT PUMPS ARE ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN AND HAVE COEFFICIENTS OF PERFORMANCE OF 5.91 AND 5.21. E.W.S.
