Heat transfer and bubble formation with pool boiling of propane at a horizontal copper tube.

Summary

The heat transfer measurements show the well known increase of the heat transfer coefficient with rising heat fluxes and saturation pressures. The density of active nucleation sites (N/A) has been investigated by high speed video techniques. The statistical examination of the results ends up in Poisson distributions for the local appearance of active nucleation sites and in modified Gauss functions for the smallest distances of neighbouring active sites. Correlations between N/A, heat flux and superheat are discussed.
