Heat transfer characteristics of plate-type evaporators.

Summary

The paper presents an experimental study on plate-type evaporators, commonly used in household refrigerators and freezers. Three experimental procedures to evaluate the evaporator heat transfer rate are presented and compared. One of the procedures, based on heat flux meters, is employed to establish the inter-dependency between evaporator positioning and the evaporator overall heat transfer coefficient. It is shown that the evaporator performance is a weak function of the evaporator positioning within the food compartment.
