Plate heat exchanger used as evaporator.

Number: pap. ID: 604

Summary

This paper reports experimental results on a plate heat exchanger used as evaporator in a single stage compression system working with ammonia. The experiments have been carried out in the Thermodynamics Laboratory of the Technical University of Civil Engineering from Bucharest. The experimental research was meant to determine: the heat flow rate on the brine (glycol solution) side; and the electrical power input for compressor; overall heat transfer coefficient, for different operating conditions and for a given geometrical configuration. This paper reports comparative experimental results on the thermal performances of the same evaporator feed with liquid in different modes: forced circulation, thermosiphon and with thermostatic valve. The present interest of the paper comes also from its focus on using ammonia, a natural and environmental friendly refrigerant, having the ODP coefficient zero and a low GWP coefficient.
