Heat transfer in an open bath and gaps in cryogenic liquid.

Summary

Steady and unsteady heat transfer experiments with liquid nitrogen and helium in an open bath and gaps of different dimensions and orientations have been performed. Experimental data on critical heat fluxes and time delay of film boiling are presented. The various mechanisms of boiling crisis in cryogenic liquids are discussed. A model predicting temperature take-off conditions of superconductors is developed. The results of computation modelling of transient heat transfer processes in liquid nitrogen and helium are described. The agreement between the experimental data and the theoretical predictions is reasonably good.
