Summary
The CO2/R41 mixture is considered a promising alternative for replacing pure CO2 refrigerants, owing to its favorable environmental properties and enhanced thermodynamic performance. However, the heat transfer mechanism of the CO2/R41 mixture in double-pipe heat exchangers under supercritical state remains unclear. To address this, a high-fidelity numerical model suitable for the coupled solution of heat transfer and flow behavior of supercritical CO2 (SCO2) and the SCO2/R41 mixture in double-pipe heat exchangers is established based on computational fluid dynamics, and the model is validated against experimental data. A comparative study is conducted on the thermo-hydraulic behaviors of both working fluids under various mass fluxes in two flow configurations (inner tube channel and annular channel) of a horizontal double-pipe heat exchanger. Results demonstrate that the SCO2/R41 mixture consistently outperforms SCO2 regarding heat transfer capability within both channels under varying mass flux conditions. Compared to the annular channel, the heat transfer capability of both SCO2 and the SCO2/R41 mixture is substantially augmented when flowing in the inner tube channel, with the average heat transfer coefficient (have) increased by approximately 119.74% and 115.12%, respectively. Notably, an anomalous heat transfer phenomenon is observed for both working fluids flowing in different channels, whereby the have decreases as the mass flux increases. Mechanism analysis reveals that this phenomenon results from the synergistic effect of variations in thermophysical properties, buoyancy effects, and turbulence intensity changes. The findings provide key theoretical support for the performance optimization and safety design of double-pipe heat exchangers.
