Helium safety relief system for DPS2-F cryostat of the Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino experiment.

Author(s) : CHOROWSKI M., FYDRYCH J., POLINSKI J., et al.

Summary

The paper describes the helium safety relief system for the KATRIN DPS2-F cryostat together with two potential scenarios that can lead to the helium relieve to the atmosphere. The most complex failure scenario considers the vacuum insulation breakdown followed by the simultaneous resistive transition of the magnets. The paper analyses thermodynamic and flow processes for this case. Scaling of the safety system elements is given.
