Summary

The Kyoto Protocol adopted on December 10, 1997 means that the European Community must achieve an 8% reduction (with respect to 1990 or 1995 levels) in overall emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, HFC, PFC and SF6) by 2010. The European Community signed the Kyoto Protocol on April 29, 1998. This will bring about signature by individual countries. Following a request from the French Ministry of the Environment in the context of negotiations arising from the signature of this Protocol, a forecast of HFC, PFC and SF6 emission levels in 2010 is presented here.
