Summary

The different pressure pulsation between the upper and lower space of the shell in a rotary compressor used for domestic air conditioners could be a cause of the axial movement of the rotor shaft. In this study, the gas dynamics analysis of a rotary compressor used for domestic air conditioners was carried out. To analyze the mechanisms of the fluctuation of the axial force in rotor shaft and the functions of the refrigerant gas (R134[a] and R407C) on the rotor system, a 3D dynamic numerical model was built up by the method of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and dynamic grid technique using popular commercial code DSS Solidworks Flow Simulation. The simulated results were compared with standard manufacturer data. Good agreement was found between the simulated results and standard manufacturer data for the rotary compressor.
